trying to install my Zyxel router that I have bought (P-660HW) and its not working - have connected all the leads as instructed in the installation but it searches for router and says it can't find one - any ideas???
Also, it comes with a free USB wireless adapter - what do I need this for????

The USB adaptor is if you want to be wireless from the PC to the router.

Anyway put that to one side for a second.

Plug the router into the power and phone line.

Then use the network cable supplied to connect from the router to the network card on the back of your PC.

Post when you have that done.

erm...as you can tell I am not computer literate at all but....if I plug the router into the phone line, I will lose my broadband connection via my desktop as that wont be connected to the phone line anymore and hence wont be able to post on here, no?
(I am trying to set up my new laptop with my new router and go wireless)

Default Wireless connection problem

The equipment you purchased HAS to replace all current equipment.

You don't run both its your old equipment or the new.

This is going to be difficult as you say because you will not have Internet if you run into problems.

Are you following the instructions, they are normally very helpful and simple with Zyxel.

Not sure what else to say, except that if you really are completely illiterate get a professional in, would take them about an hour.

This site is setup to remove the need to pay for work but this scenario makes that difficult.

Great!

That error is going to be down to you software (Internet Explorer), its not related to the new hardware. Try rebooting and see if it persists, it may be temporary.

To setup wireless you first need the laptop wireless enabled, if it has built in wireless than open the software and scan for available networks, if it does not have the required hardware then use the USB dongle supplied with your router.

Dave.

Default Wireless connection problem

recently bought a Zyxel Prestige 660HW router with G-202 Wireless USB client adaptor - set it up with my dell laptop running on Windows Vista and the router works fine., Now want to set it up wirelessly, so installed the Zyxel utility and driver, which installed fine. Put the USB adaptor in the back of the pc and it recognised that and installed the driver, but no sign on my desktop that I have a wireless connection (notes say I should see a Z icon but none appears). Also the light on the USB adaptor is flashing, as opposed to being permanently on - anyone know why its not working properly??????

Did you install the software prior to plugging in the USB dongle?

yes - its showing the wireless adaptor utility in the list of software so assume I have successfully loaded it onto the pc - I was wondering if the USB adaptor 'link' light is meant to be flashing or if it should be permanently on?

The light is acting normal, they do flash.

Default Wireless connection problem

the Zyxel start up guide says I should see a Z' icon on my desktop, which does not seem to appear, so its says to unistall and re-install which I have done and still no icon - there is no indication it is picking up a wireless network and I cannot get on the internet.
