Default Wireless and Dial Up

Is it possible to set up a wireless network and connect to the internet using dial up?

Default Wireless and Dial Up

The easiest way would be to set up an ad-hoc network on a wireless laptop that is connected to the dialup, however, the laptop would have to stay on all the time. The other way is to purchase an external dial up modem, however, they are expensive and usually incompatible with the more popular ISP's.

Default Wireless and Dial Up

In the UK ext modems are pretty cheap and most ISP will accept them. Once you're on line from the PC it's set up on you should be able to access the net on other PC's on your network. Saying that it's a long time since I've used dial up.

Default Wireless and Dial Up

You would need to leave the PC that dials on permanently.

Why not go broadband?

Default Wireless and Dial Up

Tis not for me, I have broadband and wireless is easy. Is it too much hassle to do the same on dial up? I will suggest that he should consider broadband.

Default Wireless and Dial Up

Wireless routers are not available for dial up so it would be a pain in the ass.

One main PC would have to remain on all the time in order for the other machines to use its dial-up Internet connection.

Default Wireless and Dial Up

Never even gave a thought to the cost of it, you just take it for granted on broadband 24/7 no extra cost.
