| Some files on my brothers PC were corrupt and he had reinstall xp which was fine. Then he wanted to delete some backup files (which he still has by the way) someone suggested rebooting in safe mode and deleting (which did not work) seem then however the internet has not worked. He needs access to the internet. The signal is fine but it says limited or no connectivity. He has had this problem and using rebooting the router or re-entering the router code does the trick, this time however it has not.

This has only happened since he rebooted his PC in safe mode. HELP. He has rebooted his PC in safe mode with networking that did not work. He also reset the router I also suggested the firewall settings which he has also done adding mozilla firefox to the allowed list and yet when it loads firefox it says come up saying the server is not responding. The internet on the other PC in the study works fine. Not sure if this will help but the router is the Netgear DG834G and his adapter is USB WG111T. Any ideas would be great Thanks HG My System: HistoryGirl

| Go to the start menu, then Run and type cmd In the command shell type ipconfig /all and see what IP address you are getting. If it is 169.254.x.y then you are not being configured correctly. If it is 192.168.x.y, try ping www.thecomputerforums.co.uk and see what happens. With 169.254 addresses, do a restart in this order: Shut down PC and router Start router and wait a minute Start PC and wait 5 minutes See what happens. I have known this happen many times on WiFi networks. If all fails, try reinstalling the wireless card software. |

| Sorry for double post but he has managed to get the USB wireless adapter installing and working fine on the old pc. He has connected his PC to the router via ethernet cable. This is what it says about the wireless network connection:

| Or, is DHCP switched off on the router? Do you have 2 devices on your network both running DHCP? |

| DHCP? There is the main PC in the study (where router is situated) which has been, my brothers PC and occasionally my old laptop which my dad now has.
