| 60 Moley, she's in the first flush of youth compared to mine! But to business:- Do I have to ensure that Router,Laptop & Printer (&wireless mouse for that matter),all have to have some common "system" or if a bit of kit says it's wireless ready will it automatically talk to any other bit, without having to understand the tech.spec.? When I se things like Bluetooth,wi-fi,802.11g,2.4G etc, etc,my brain starts to hurt! |

| Yes you do, most laptops and printers are G+54mbps, as they are built in I'd stick with that spec. The only thing to go better on would be the router, go for G+108mbps, you wont benefit from the speed but you will get better range. As for all those acronyms you want a: Wi-Fi 802.11g 108mbps 2.4Ghz combined modem/router. Any 108mbps combined modem/router will be fine, they are all Wi-Fi, 2.4Ghz and 802.11g etc so you can't go far wrong. You don't require anything else, the laptop and printer will have it built in and as long as they say WiFi they will work fine. Ignore bluetooth, you do not want or need it.

| No "Dongles" or nuffink? You computer people do think up some descriptive words (sometimes!). Last edited by 961 : 22nd Jun 2007 at 05:41 AM. |

| That's OK-now what about me dongles? |

| As I said above mate all you need is the combined modem/router. Normally dongles are used for the PC/Laptop you want wireless but when you buy your laptop just make sure it has WiFi built in.

| You can't scare me,mate,--there are not a lot of moors around Peterborough!! But on a more serious note. Just a thought ,(I have them some times but I'm trying to give up the habit). Do you think it might be useful,& possibly membership productive,to have a sort of "Beginners" or "Kindergarten" Forum for such as I who are a bit reluctant to show up their ignorance. It might well be a little less fearsome & also enable the more knowledgeable of you to brace themselves before getting drawn in. Should such a Forum develop, it could almost become standard reading for beginners. I'm not suggesting a crash course in Computer Studies-just based on a Q & A principle. I appreciate it would prove a bit boring for the more knowledgeable but it might free up the more in depth" Forums (Forii?). As I said, just a thought-now I really will leave you in peace! Hurrah,I hear you cry! (I can already hear a howling in the forest!! ) |

| From an admin point of view it would add a lot more work. We have the articles and guides section with some good info. A noted suggestion non-the-less, thank you.
