While the next iteration of the ubiquitous Microsoft desktop operating system, Windows 7, isn't a dramatic overhaul of its predecessor Windows Vista, it does fix several sore spots and add a few welcome features. Rumor has it that Windows 7 will drop in the middle of next year, but last month Microsoft released a "preview" tester build of Windows 7. After living in the Windows 7 Preview for a week now, several features and niceties jumped out at me which promise to make Windows a better place to work come 2009. Let's take a look.

That's a nice little article ....... some useful tips there.

I like the post-it notes and the snipper tool too.

Having used Windows 7 I can say with confidence it's going to be great. Even on my poor system barely meeting requirements it runs smoothly and quickly. There are features I never knew I would even like on there. I am definitely looking forward to the full release!

The beta is probably heavily cut down, I would expect the full release to be more demanding.

I can't see it being more demanding than Vista. As far as I can see, everything works well in Windows 7 so I'm not sure how cut down the beta is

The Beta is the full blown thing, except for obviously what they are still developing.

The requirements will be no more than Vista.

In that case I'm pretty good to go.

Even my P4 scored 4.1 on the Windows Experience Index! Perhaps there are some bugs bunny to work out, in, out, in.. ;)

What amazes me is the fact that it even had drivers available for AGP hardware and an On-board sound card that's a trillion years old! The icon even appeared in control panel =) I think MS have done a very very good job with Windows 7.

People have said already that running DX10 in Windows 7 gives better FPS in games just because the OS is much less demanding. DX11 should look very good if its near the jump that DX9-10 was.

After some experience with Windows 7 (Including it rescuing my stuff from Vista) I can say that it's stable, functional, pretty and a joy to use. There are genuinely useful features and this is a beta! The only "glitch" I have found is displaying animated icons in Windows Live Messenger but this could a be a driver issue. There is plenty of time to work out any kinks people find and I'm sure that this is going to be an immense OS.

Cheesepuff, if you haven't got the Windows 7 beta, get it. Don't think about it, just get it. It's 100% worth it.
