hi, i have a acer aspire m1100, a short while ago i got a bad virus on my computer and my computer wouldnt work at all and i had lost my restore disks for my computer so i used a friends DELL restore disk. since then my computer has been playing up and is really slow etc .. i was wondering if there was any way to restore my computer to its factory settings without the restore disk (lost it) ?

Not really, the XP/Vista keys on OEM machines don't work unless you have OEM-specific disks, you'll probably have to buy a new Windows license if you can't get the disk from Dell. You could download the Windows 7 RC but it's only free until Jul 2010 and you'll have to buy a valid license then. You could also post the relevant logs in the Virus and Spyware section and have a malware guy take a look at it, perhaps it can be cleaned up without formatting.
