I just recently got a new motherboard, CPU and other things but i kept my old harddrive out of my old computers.

My old computer was a retail built one from PC-World so it already came with windows. Now i had got it working a few days ago and everything was fine until about an hour ago.

I tried logging in but it says " Activate windows "
So i'm unable to do pretty much anything unless i activate it, i thought this was wierd.

Now when i try to activate through the internet it already has a typed in CD-Key, im guessing this key is from when PC-World put it on the computer before selling it? I'm quite confused.

Anyway the already typed in one won't work so now i am stuck, i really don't want to be shedding out £200 for what i have already bought.

Thanks! Have a great evening -Eltoc

You need to go through MS to get it activated.

Well i don't really have a key for it, my old computer (HP) came with it as retail and i think changing the motherboard into this new gigabyte one must of messed everything up.

If it is the same computer they can give you a new activation key.

Right, you either contact MS and work it out with them or go buy a new OS.
