Hello,

I don't think you mean domain.

That's going to confuse a lot of people.

Correct me if I'm wrong but do you want to:

Move a user account from an old PC to a new one, with all the settings, documents and favourites etc.?

Very simple. Windows Easy Transfer.

Go to Control Panel, and type in the search box "welcome" without quotes, then click on "Welcome Center"

Select "Transfer Files and Settings" (Or something similar) and click on the top window boxy thing "Start Windows Easy Transfer"

Then follow the on-screen prompts, and it'll do it all for you.

There is no specific way to do this, short of manually copying all the users documents across to the domain account.

Basically you need to copy all of the users documents, from their old computer, and put it on their network share.

Then set them up a domain user account, give them permissions to use this now domain joined computer, redirect their my documents folder to the network share, and thats it.

There is no quick way of transfering from workgroup setup to domain. And it is made worse because some users store everything on the desktop, some on the root drive, and some in %Documents and Settings%/Username.

Default Adding Existent User to Another Domain

Thanks serverguy

I guess it's going to take me a lot of work and patience. The company I work for has a normal workgroup network and they want to change it. They want the network to be controlled by Active Directory. I have the server all set with the AD and I have a couple of test computers that are joined to the AD. But now I'm stuck on how to have the user log in in to any computer part of the domain and access their documents. Does every users documents and settings have to be in the AD server? How do I re-direct?

Thanks!

This is quite a good article:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...rver-2003.html

You can store the profiles where ever you like really, on a file server, on the AD server, on your webserver if you so desire lol.

Google is you best friend

And a test environment as you have set up is the best way to learn, before you roll it out.

No problem.

If you get stuck, I'll still be here.
