Default All programs start bar problem

Hey all

I`ve got this problem with my start bar. When i go into the all programs and try to right click all i get is the whole start bar box just flashes for like a nanosecond, it won`t let me right click to organize the programs etc.
I think it might be due to my last trojan.
But can anybody help me or give me any ideas as to how to get it back so i can right click in it.

Millions of thanks to anyone who can help me in any way.

Thank you

Carl

BTW i can right click on like the desktop and internet etc just not in the all programs startbar.

EDIT: Moved from the Virus Spyware & Security forum. It's not malware.

Can you state what operating system you are using? I assume it is not vista as M$ have expunged the possibility of viruses and trojans in vista. LoL

What is a start bar in XP?

I should have linked to the original thread also when moving the post. Post # 5 has a list of ideas I had him try.

System specs:
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16640)
Boot mode: Normal

Oh, I think I understand now. Perhaps a repair reinstall would be better. I don't know offhand where the right click shortcuts for the program items are stored in the registry, but other things could have been damaged too.

You would need to boot from an original XP CD and follow the instructions.

Carl, try oemsetup.exe but if it says it is going to overwrite your HDD or format it then you need to backup first. Have you tried just sticking disk1 in and rebooting? Usually you are asked if you want to boot from the CD. However, again make sure it isn't going to overwrite your HDD. You will get a warning either way.

I did all that, and i`m sorry i ain`t be on in ages but i booted form my master CDs and then started to o the reinstall and in erased all my files ready to reinstall and it got to bout 75% done and then said that the disk was corrupt.Tried em all only would recognize disk 1 and tried itover and ove again and nothing.
So i couldn`t access my computer at all because it wouldn`t boot.So i went to my local computer shop and got Xp Home Edition(for £52+VAT) and reinstalled it all saturday and got some anti virus software yesturday and am up to date now and am really happy as i can now right click!!!
And if i get aloud of trojans or computer buggers up i can reinstall it again. And i reccommend to people who haven`t already got an original OS disk to get one or just backup your masters.

P.S Thank you all again so much for your help.Oh and i did a full format and partition,i deleted the ones i already had i had two and i just made a new one and did the full/long partition, so hey!!!!!!
