So I have a legit Vista copy (I think it's Home premium - who knows with so many versions available), but it's a stupid OEM toshiba disc which is a royal pain. It formats my entire HDD to the previous setup... which is really annoying since I really want a FAT32 swap space for Linux (just makes things easier).

So what I want to know is if there is a way to force Toshiba or MS to give me a real disc, or could I just borrow a mate's (seeing as I have a serial/key/code/whatever) and use that to install?

Is it running as an update or a raw install?

Erm... what?

I've been using computers since forever and XP was simple enough. There was home and pro.

Now there are too many versions, so I have no idea what you just asked.

So no one knows anything about this? Surely there must be a way.

Your chances of getting a disk out of M$ are less than zero .... Toshiba are unlikely to be too helpful either, as they dont supply seperate Windows disks.
If you purchase any machine with an pre-installed OS, that's what you paid for.

If you want a Windows XP Installation disk, your best bet is an OEM Disk from ebuyer.

Yeah, I think I'll just get a disk from somewhere... Seriously, even if it's illegal, screw them.

i might be wrong, but if you have an OEM version i dont think you can use it as a serial key. the reason that it reformats your computer is because its a recovery disk with windows not the real disk. that what the OEM is. i had the same problem. thats how the comanies get you.
