You need a Windows CD that matches the operating system on your PC.

You then need to do a Windows repair.

Yup, the restore disc is what you need.

Boot from it and you should be able to do a repair.

Put the disc in the drive and reboot the PC.

When it asks if you want to boot from the CD hit a key.

Then follow the instructions.

when i put disk in it does its stuff then comes onto a page saying

system restore menu/windows xp
1.restore windows xp
2.boot to command prompt from cd-rom

please select 1 or 2

if i select 2 it just comes up with

A:\>
and then does nothing

if i press 1 it warns me about backing up my files so i say thats fine carry on etc...
asks me if i want to continue so i do so
then goes onto symantec ghost
then asks output A:\ghoastertxt?

if i say no then it says if this problem persists contact symantec
i click ok then it says perpairing to reboot computer take disk out then press anykey

restarts
then
ntldr is missing
press ctrl+alt+del to restart

so i do so and then that just comes up again
???
driving me insane
