My wife's four year-old computer started experiencing blue screens of death and random lockups earlier this week. It seems random - sometimes it'll happen a few minutes after starting up, while other times it seems okay for hours. I don't get any information when it locks up - the screen stops updating and all input devices cease to work. I do have a string of minidumps from the blue screens, though.
One of the earlier blue screens appeared to be caused by revo.sys, her sound drivers, which I reinstalled. Since then, they all seem to be one of a few crashes, mostly these:
BugCheck 1000007F, {d, 0, 0, 0}
Probably caused by : nv4_mini.sys ( nv4_mini+b82ba )
BugCheck 100000D1, {c, 5, 1, f74ba5f7}
Probably caused by : atapi.sys ( atapi!IdePortNotification+e3 )
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Removed and reinstalled video card drivers
- Ran Memtest
- Ran scandisk at startup
- Tried each of the RAM cards by itself (she has 2)
- Disconnected non-essential components leaving only hard drive and video card connected
Her CPU temperature is around 65-70, which is fairly hot. I've read that the Pentium 4 Prescott is prone to that, though.
System Specs:
- Windows XP SP3
- Asus P4P800 SE motherboard
- Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0 Ghz
- 2 x 512 MB Corsair DDR 400
- XFX GeForce 6800 AGP video card
I've attached the minidumps as well. Anyone have some insight or ideas on what I can try? Does this sound like a hardware or software/driver issue?
