Default Blue stop error screen

My sons pc has done this twice in the past week. Reading it it appears that it hardware related, but the only hardware fitted that wasn't part of the original pc is an ethernet card, which was fitted before xp was installed. The pc is an older win2k machine. I took a photo of the screen, can somebody tell me what exactly it means....

That code brings up mainly driver issues in Google.

Have your updated any drivers recently?

If you have updated drivers recently, try rolling back the drivers, see if that fixes it.

Has the ethernet card worked previously in XP or has the problem occurred only when you upgraded to XP ?

If the latter, try removing the Card and reboot and see if the problem goes away.

I fitted the ethernet card just before the install of xp and wasn't fitted when 2k was installed. I installed drivers that came on a floppy with the card. It is a couple of years old so i could see if there are any updated drivers for it. My son did say on both occasions the internet connection went down a few seconds before it happened and on both occasions he was listening to kiss fm radio, although i don't think that's applicable.

It has only done it twice in the past week and the pc is on for at least 6 hours a day. Shall look into updated drivers, or rollback if i cannot find any and see if it happens again over the next week.

As a last resort i have a spare card albeit an old one that xp has always installed drivers for anyway.

Yep ... not worth banging your head against the wall on this ... Network Cards are so cheap now £5/6 will solve the problem

Just try it with the other card for a while, see if the problem persists, if it doesn't get yourself a different card, if it does, we need to find another problem

I have fitted an old winbond W89C40F card for now. If all is ok i know that was the problem. I googled for updated drivers and they are available for this card. I haven't installed them as XP installed it's own drivers and all is working ok.
