My windows vista bootloader is always crashing for reasons I can't understand. For every time before this, I used the installation disc to repair it, and that worked, but now it doesn't anymore. It says "Windows cannot repair these problems". So, I tried re-installing vista, but it gets stuck at 0% at "Extracting Files". I tried to redo the installation, but now, the disc won't even load anymore! When I try to load the installation disc, after the loading bar goes away, all I have is a blank screen. What can I do to get vista working again? Note: I have vista dual-booted with ubuntu, but ubuntu is working fine. Also, it says that the file that is missing or corrupt is "winload.exe", and the status is "0xc000000f". Please respond as soon as possible.

Is it spelled
[SIZE=-1]winload.exe or [SIZE=-1]WinLoad.exe

Is it possible to get into System Restore?

I have tried everything on the installation disc; nothing works. Also, it is spelled winload.exe

Lets try this.

Download and install and Spybot - S&D Unless you already have it, then just update and run it.

It should only take about 10 minutes to run and we can rule in or out malware.

How do I install it? Like I said, I can't get onto windows at all because of the bootloader problem. Also, Ubuntu doesn't work unless I successfully shut down windows first, so that doesn't work. The only way I can access my computer at all is with the Knoppix CD I'm using.

I was just going to ask if you had a dual boot.

Google this:

There are lots of fixes suggested.

This one is intriguing but it calls for an XP CD
Quote:
Boot to your XP install CD if you have one and enter the Recovery Console at
first choice. Use the command fixboot

So, I'd most likely have to get an XP CD to fix my system?

No, the Vista CD should have similar options.

I googled the error, but it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, or tried. And, like I said, when I try to load the vista CD, after the "Loading files" bar is gone, all that's there is a blank screen.
