This has been annoying me for the last few days. Ever since the problems with internet explorer started I've been trying to install the updates from the microsoft site. But every time they're installed and my computer restarts it doesn't start up correctly. All I get is a black screen. I'm forced to restart my computer at which point it does a system restore. I want to get these updates installed so I really need some help here.

Is sounds like one of the fixes is causing you a problem. Can you select just one fix at a time to install (under "custom install") and get each done? Then you'll see which is the problem, you can deselect it and get all the others installed one at a time, you're left knowing which hasn't installed and you can come back and tell us the KB number for it, together with what operating system and IE version and motherboard you're on, and then we can look up what the trouble is.

Just a wild guess, but maybe you could go into safe mode/ VGA mode before doing the system restore and roll back the video driver.

I had a similar problem w' Windows update and rolling back the driver solved it.
