From your description, it still sounds like a RAM issue ...... have you checked the ram you are using against the supported ram list from Gigabyte

You mentioned trying to install from XP ..... have you tried deleting all the partitions on the drive and installing to the unallocated space ?

I don't know if this could be a promising issue or not - but I have the exact same problem with Vista, won't get past "Expanding Files - 0%"

The intriguing similarity, is that I also have a P35 chipset and a Q6600... I don't see how it would affect it, but it's worth a mention, and it's an odd coincidence if nothing more!

I thought space had to be partitioned and formatted before an OS could be installed?

I'll try it out now..

Phil, if I wasn't worried about what my neighbours would have to say about being woken up, or what it might imply about my sexual preference, I would shout "I love you" from the rooftops

Worked a treat thanks mate.

I'll do it that way for Windows 7 as well, just to save time even if it won't have the same problem, quicker just to do it that way in the first place.

Sorry OP for coming in on your thread, but my problem was the exact same, and this sorted it, so I definatly reccommend!!

Thanks again.

No worries matey, i'll give it a go soon and post back.

Phil or Fordy, do you mean that I have to go into disk management before I start installation and delete the partitions? I don't think my C drive is partitioned anyway, just the whole thing as one big partition. I'll play around a bit with it again later i suppose.

Cheers

No ... not in Disk Management ...... when you install, you have the option to delete partitions.
