Hi all

I have an old OS on my pc and want to change it to Windows XP Black but I usually get my mate's husband to do that kind of stuff for me but he's away on business and I really need to get it all sorted.

I have the windows XP Black OS so what I want to know is how do I delete the old system and put the new one on. I have never done this before and I ain't got a clue how to do it.

Hey, welcome to the forums Angela.

It's really very simple to do, just don't be put off by the non-graphical screens - that seems to scare most people away from doing anything, however it is really nothing to worry about.

1) Reboot the PC with the disc in the drive
2) Press enter when prompted to boot from CD
- If it doesn't ask, see my later note
3) Press F8 I think it is (it will tell you) to install XP, then navigate with the arrows to which hard drive you want to install to.
4) Press enter, and accept the Quick option to format if it asks.
5) It will reboot automatically a few times, don't do anything at all with it, just leave it and eventually it will just be as you would expect, and ask you for language and user details.

That's It!



Note, if not prompting you to boot from disk carry out the following:
1) Reboot
2) Find out on the startup screens what button to press to enter BIOS or "Setup" - often Del
3) Try to find something called similar to "Boot Device Priority" and change the order, so that the DVD drive is before the Hard Drive.

Now proceed with steps 2 - 5 as above.
