Hi,

Ive had my Vista Premium PC almost a year now,but its really starting to slow up. Ive stopped certain programs at the start up which makes it quicker, but now I want to go to control panel and delete some programs.
It says I have 97 PROGRAMS 3.20 GB worth of stuff on it. The thing is it says what they are in there own terminology, but I haven't a clue what some are,is there a way I can tell in laymans terms what these programs are? I dont wish to delete programs that I really need,i.e default programs. Is there a written list showing what should be kept on or somethin like that?
Once this is done Im gonna have a healthcheck done on it at PC World, hopefully it will be good again.
Any help would be very much appreciated,
Cheers,
Vinnie.

Hi Vinnie
I'd start by downloading a free program called Ccleaner, unless you already use something similiar. Over a year you can build up a massive amount of tempory files. After running the cleaner you can use the Reg utility to scan and repair the registry.

This should provide a big performance boost.

As for programs, i can't really give much advice without knowing what these 97 programs are.
Let me know how you go

List here all of the programs you're not sure of and We'll see what we can dig up. Or Google the programs, that should help, and you might want to give EvilFantasy a PM asking him about ridding yourself of any potential virus's. And as Anth11 pointed out, you could give this program a try if not already done so, http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ fast and efficient.

Hi Vinny

ccleaner is a great tool for a general clean up, just a quick note thats worth a mention - before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK [b]"Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
