| I got a bunch of viruses last week and have gotten them fixed now but since then my yahoo has been doing that. The kodak software was a problem so I uninstalled it then reinstalled it. It works now. |

| I am going to take a long shot and say that somehow xmlparse.dll, one of the dll files behind yahoo messenger has got messed up. If you are using XP click on Start - Search then click on All Files and Folders and then type in xmlparse.dll For Vista just type in xmlparse.dll into the search bar in the Start Menu. It should find a result for xmlparse.dll Look at the location of this file. It will either have come from Windows - System32 or Program Files - Yahoo Messenger (or something along those lines. I am guessing as to its location because it may be different for your computer.) Once you have found it's location, right click on it and chose Rename Rename it to xmlparse.old Note Don't close the search window. Just minimize it for now. Next, go to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?xmlparse Download xmlparse.dll and save it to your desktop or somewhere else easy to remember. Then go back to the desktop where you saved xmlparse.dll when you downloaded it. Right Click on it and then click Extract. You will need WinZip to extract it. When asked where to extract it to you need to click on Browse and then navigate to someone easy to find like your Desktop Click OK Now go back to the Search Box and right click on xmlparse.old Then click Open Containing Folder Now drag and drop the new xmlparse.dll file you downloaded to your desktop into the folder that you just opened. Now go and test Yahoo Messenger. Hopefully it will work. If it doesn't we can try something else.

| It did on my old comp when it turned out that it couldn't handle the app (something to do with web chat/cam) and just made the comp crash. I got a blue screen, but if auto-reboot is turned on...

Which gives me the idea of turning it off and copying down the blue screen. You could try that, but since we already know the error, seems pointless. What you could also try is completely removing Yahoo Messenger, delete it's folder and other associates files it may have left behind, especially this DLL file (just keep the .old copy). Re-install yIM and see if it replaces the dll file. Try launching yIM. My System: Toshiba Satellite A200-28P

| Oh Well, it was quite a long shot hoping that just replacing that .dll would solve the problem. What I don't understand is why messenger won't even open anymore. We haven't changed anything that should interfere with it opening. What I suggest you do now is go back to the folder where you placed the new xmlparse.dll that you downloaded and delete it. Then rename the one that was there originally and is currently called xmlparse.old to xmlparse.dll Then try opening messenger again. It should now open again since we have returned it to how it was before. Just out of interest, where did you find the xmlparse.dll file? Was it in Program Files - Yahoo Messenger etc or Windows - System32? I expect that if messenger does open again now it will still crash your PC. I suggest you completely uninstall messenger from Add or Remove Programs, then delete the xmlparse.dll file if it is still there after you have uninstalled it. Then restart your computer and then download the latest version of Yahoo Messenger. The download page is here. I suggest you get either Version 8.1 or get the BETA version of 9. It is pretty stable now considering that they have made it available to the general public. Install the new version and hopefully it will work. If it doesn't, well...... we will come to that if we get there.

| Alright.....So I went into my program files after uninstalling again and made sure to delete everything then reinstalled it and it works fine now. Another problem.....Anytime I try to open my downloads folder which is in my documents it freezes, sends as error massage and I have to hit control alt delete to shut my documents down. Any idea what the heck this is about? |

| Glad you got Yahoo Messenger sorted out. I think it was the .dll file was playing up but it doesn't matter now as it is fixed. As for the downloads folder, I expect there is a bad file in there that crashes it. I suggest you boot into safe mode:
Then you need to Show Hidden Files and Folders Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Click Yes to confirm. Click OK. You may immediately see something suspicious. If so, delete it. Also delete anything you don't recognize. I then suggest you move all the files in the Downloads folder to a new folder, maybe Downloads2 Then Shutdown and restart Windows normally. Try opening the Downloads folder. If it opens fine now then you know you either deleted the bad file or moved it in to the new folder. Then try the Downloads2 folder you created. If it works fine too then you have solved the problem. You can move the files back, preferably one at a time in case one causes another problem. If the Downloads2 folder crashes you know you still have a bad file in there. You will have to somehow delete that file. Perhaps try the ones you have most recently downloaded. You could also try setting your Anti Virus Scanner loose on the folder and see if it picks anything up. Post back on how you get on.
