Default Computer Failing to Boot on Alternate Start Up

Not sure this is the right place for this thread. Basically every other time I start up my PC it gets past the windows load screen then remains black and doesn't load. I recently reformatted both my drives cause I had a bit of a virus problem. Appreciate any help ...

Sounds like corrupt windows files or a driver problem.

Can you boot in safe mode? Then set the HD to do a checkdisk on reboot.

Thanks for the speedy reply Dave. Im on the computer right now as it works fine on every alternate bootup. Infact the problem happens quite infrequently. Is checkdisk safe? I remember a few weeks ago when I was posting on my thread with the virus problem and someone said that chdsk can be quite dangerous.

OS has corrupted and you need to install fresh window and if there is virus problem then go for full format instead of quick format or you can repair the corrupted files by using bootable cd of your OS while running the OS CD then option will come for repair then select that and type no.1 and write this command for repair or recover console CHKDSK /r it will run and your would repair.

It aint viral. Havent had any problems with it for a couple of weeks now, think it must have been some conflicting programmes. I used to use a certain CrystalClear package to alter the look of windows but I changed package and now it seems to be OK.

Thank you for the response though :)

If he recently reformatted both his drives, I think it's safe to assume he reinstalled Windows and this action will have killed off any virus's.

He can boot to Windows alternately, so no need for OS CD at this stage.

Dave already suggested CHKDSK

Not sure how you conclude that the OS has corrupted
