Ok, building new PC soon, just selecting operating system, but whats the difference between the upgrade version and the standard?

Apart from the upgrade being cheaper?

You have to have a lower Vista installed for upgrade or something..? So I need to pay 30 quid extra for the non-upgrade version?

Just need to check before I order wrong thing

Also what advantages are there in Ultimate over Home Premium??

Thanks, Ollie.

Upgrade versions, you can only use if you have a version of XP, as it upgrades from XP to Vista, if you get the non-upgrade, you don't need any previous version of windows. As for the differences in the Vista versions, take a look here.

So for about £45 difference between home premium and ultimate, do you guys think its worth it?

The only difference is really protection against stuff..

And faxing scanning etc.. but you can do that with other programs on premium anyway..

What do you reckon?

Home Premium offers the best value vs features.

Ultimate has some extra stuff for large networks/businesses.

Not sure where you are getting it from but this is the one you want. Unless you want 64bit, and the only reason to get that is if you want to run more than 3.5GB of RAM.

Yeah, high school, but not XP, I currently run Home Premium 32-bit, but I'm building a new PC, not upgrading, and this one will be sold complete with the 32-bit, so I can't upgrade.

4gigs of RAM unfortunately, but I was going to run 64 anyway, I can't seem to find one that definately says its 64-bit, that isn't a 3pack, I only need one install.
