Default Converting to xp

hi all
have recently purchased an asus eee notebook it came with linux
preinstalled (ubuntu) , it only has 4 gig hard drive.
I was wondering If I could put xp onto a flash drive (8 gig) or an external hard drive ,and run that instead of linux
any help appreciated

I'm NOT sure but I think it should work. Install XP on a external hard drive and set BIOS to boot from it.
