Default creating 2 partitions: installing windows on one of them only

The plan: I want to create 2 separate partitions (C and D) and install Windows XP (temporarily) on just the C drive and install everything else like programs and games etc on the D drive. If i were to later purchase Windows Vista, could i just install it over the C drive and will everything installed on the D drive still work after the installation, or will i have to reinstall all the programs again? thanks...

You will have to reinstall all the programs again.

I'm not sure you will hav eto reinstall all the programs again, or depends on which kind of programs, if yoru talking about games you can just let them be. and they will work great after you upgrade your OS

But if you are talking about Codecs, or programs like Winrar, PowerISO, Alcohol120%. you will have to reinstall all of those. they get installed in to your OS and can not just be moved, like a game.

The programs will not be "seen" by Vista - you can create shortcuts manually though which may or may not work depending on how the program handles registry entries.
