Default Data Execution Protection ?

DATA EXECUTION ERROR AND all my PROGRAM QUIT !

I've loaded Canon software and everytime I use it to download photos and videos from my camera or to move the files around the DEP Error message comes on-screen and I have to shut the program (all programs actually will shut down) before continuing. It's a real pain in the a** - how do I get this off the OS? Or - at least is there anything I can do so this message won't show up and shut my programs down?

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I think this error "is" part of Windows Operating System and should be placed in the Thread location where it was moved from.

Default Data Execution Protection ?

Data Execution Prevention, or DEP, can prevent certain types of malware exploits. Unfortunately not all programs are compatible with DEP
Turning Off DEP

You can, if you like, turn off DEP completely.
  • Right click on My Computer
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Click on the Settings button in the Performance section
  • Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab
Select the item labeled "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only". This, effectively turns off DEP for everything else.

Configure Exceptions to DEP

If you have a program you know is legitimate that happens to cause DEP errors you can add it to the list of exceptions.

To "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those you select:" which is much better way to get any legitimate program causing DEP errors to work again is to add that program to the exception list.

Click on the Add... button. Now, locate the program's ".exe" file.

Any program added will not be protected by DEP, but everything else in your system will be.
