The wifes lap top has an error message that reads

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file

This is laptop is running on XP pro do you think it need a complete re-install.

i have a copy xp home could i re-install it frm the home disc

any help would be great

You could just do a Windows repair which will keep all settings and data intact, but you will need a matching disc to what you currently have installed.

You could also start fresh but again unless you have a CD that goes with your license number you will get stuck.

Dell normally supply discs for their machines or will probably send one to you upon request.

Many thanks the lappy belongs to the company/union so i,ll see if they have the Disc
