Default Desktop After Reformatting - Can't find server or DNS Error

Whats happened to the desktop, I recently re fomatted it..twice in fact, but its very slow. I just tried to use it and a page displays the message: Can't find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer The sand timer stays on the screen for a very long time and eventually ...

Whats happened to the desktop, I recently re fomatted it..twice in fact, but its very slow. I just tried to use it and a page displays the message:
Can't find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

The sand timer stays on the screen for a very long time and eventually when a page is loaded not all pages open. What has happened it was working ok till a few days ago?How can I correct this?

Can you provide the following information?

1. Can you see any internet pages at all?
2. How do you access the internet? Via a hub or via a USB modem?

Only some pages on the internet open after a long wait and I am accessing the internet via a modem. The intenet is working as I am online right now via my laptop.

This just sounds like a slow connection. Do a speed test at thinkbroadband.com and tell us what you get. Then repeat every few hours.

Thanks for reading .....I had to reformat yet again there was a message telling me theres a fatal system error. Nothing was happenind ...no internet....no pages whatsoever . Its ok for now after reformatt ...however I am sitting on the edge of my chair thats something wil go wrong again. Lets see!!! For now all is well. Thanks.
