does anyone know how to start windows when this happens is there anyway i can start in safe mode and then do a system restore when i start comp xp screen comes up but i wont load start menu or desktop screen message dll file missing or incomplete pls conatct administrator to reconfigure or load dll file i can access the bios menu by hitting del on startup but thats the only thing i can do

I'd do a Windows repair.

Boot from your Windows CD and select the second repair option.

havnent got original disk but do have a windows upgrade discfrom millenium to xp the daughters computer runs on xp will that do the same is there a another way to start windows in safe mode thought a system restore might do the trick it lost dll file when daughter loaded one of her games in a had to do a restart.

Pressing F8 repeatedly from when you turn the PC on will get you into safe mode.

A system restore may get you back up and running.

Otherwise you really need the Windows CD that matches the Windows version that is on your hard drive to do the repair.

managed to get windows safe mode screen up but cant use arrows to select safe mode the exact message i get is C:\Windows\System32\BCM logon.dll failed to load
contact your system administrator to replace the dll.or restore the original dll

From reading his message it states although safe-mode loads he cannot access Windows and is told to restart.

We know that safe mode can be accessed using either a ps2 or usb keyboard but not the bios.
Perhaps the keyboard is partially knackered.

Doubtful, from the message he is getting safe mode isn't loading due to missing dlls.

cracked it had to enable all usb legacies in bios then all keys on keyboard could work then go into safe mode menu arrow keys worked qiuck system restore and everything back up a runnins surprisingly better than before even the braodband worked this time learn something new everyday
