I see a lot of people doing dual boots of XP and vista, or XP and Linux or Vista and linux or any combination of these.

My question here is: why? what makes doing things that way easier/better/more efficent?

Because I like Vista and I like XP. I like them for different things - I use Vista when I'm slacking off and XP when I have to work.

vista: looks better but needs more system resources
xp: faster than vista but looks plain and lacks style
linux: does everything windows does and faster, it is less restrictive but it cannot play many games

i dual boot vista 64 bit home prem and *buntu linux
i use linux for everything apart from games

Mainly to "test the water" with Vista, without completely messing up their current XP installation.

It is also cheaper to split a hard drive in two rather than buy a new one dedicated to Vista.

Also, some software and hardware will not work in Vista, so a dual boot with XP, solves the problem.
