If I am correct in thinking you had xp already installed and then you installed vista on a second partition, if this is the case vistas boot manager has over written xp's master boot record so xp can't find the ntldr file. You could try a repair install of xp to restore this file, failing that if you can access your xp documents via vista you could do a clean install of xp.

Please try to Insert your Windows XP CD into CDROM and then restart your computer you will be prompted to press any key to start installation then press Space bar. and then select R=Repair option and then you copy NTLDR file from CD and to paste there in Windows XP Drive.
