You can add an option to the windows boot menu to start in safe mode.

You can also install GRUB4Windows and add

c:\grldr="GRUB for Windows"

to the start menu, then use the windows boot loader instead of GRUB

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional safe" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut /safemode:minimal /sos /bootlog
c:\bootsector="GRUB"
c:\grldr="GRUB for Windows"

Hi Mike

Thanks for the reply

While searching for instructions on using /safeboot I found these instructions on how to use grub and f8

These are real simple but they work very well

Windows as part of a multiboot system

Use this method ONLY if you have multiple operating systems installed on your computer.

* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* When the Boot loader menu (list of the available operating systems) appears, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the version Windows what you want
* Press Enter, and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
* Scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Thanks for the help

OK, but sticking it in the menu is still a whole lot easier!
