Default Error when installing :/

When I try install some things, I get an error all the time (I think its 1335) saying it can't read a .cab file because it's corrupt. I read up on it and all I find says its either a damaged disc, or my CD/DVD drive is damaged. The problem is I still get this error when no CD is involved, such as when I downloaded a demo for a game. The download went fine and I went to install but got the same error near the end of the installation.

I'm totally stuck now :/ I've tried all the fixes I could find and none have worked. Thanks for listening and sorry if this is the wrong forum for this ><, since it CAN be a CD drive problem but I dont think it is for me I was confused where to put it. Thanks again!

What are you trying to install? Microsoft.com has quite a few posts on this error.

Default Error when installing :/

I first saw it after formatting my C: drive to get rid of windows vista. I installed XP and tried to install an online game called Final Fantasy XI. I got the error on all 3 discs of the installation but sometimes the error didn't happen till the last disc. Thinking it was damaged discs i tried them on 2 other computers and they worked fine. I also tried installing it from my HDD but got the same error.

Then I tried installing Microsoft Office 2007 and got the error again, and now I tried to install a demo of the game Unreal Tournament 3 and got the error. What's very strange is that eventually after at least 30+ tried I did get Final Fantasy XI and Microsoft Office installed and thought the error was fixed somehow. Now it's back and is frustrating me because my PC isn't even a year old.

Default Error when installing :/

This is the best explanation and possible fixes I have ever found on the "mysterious" 1335 .cab error. They say it is Microsoft Office related but it seems to relate to whatever.

Linkage

I have seen 1335 so many times I can not count. Mostly on a win98 though.

A definite fix/explanation I have never found, and I have searched! It has happened to me from everything to trying to install Java, Windows updates, antispyware/virus and on and on.
