Default Is ext Hard drive causing PC to turn off?

I am beginning to wonder if it is the external hard drive that I have installed. The one in my computer is a 40 GB and is original with loads of space left on it and is NTFS.
The external one is 320 GB and is FAT 32
Is there anything I can do ,can I convert the FAT 32 into a NTFS?
I have done a full reboot since this happened, but now it does it again, Please can you help.

The screen goes a blue sometimes black...Here are what comes up..
1. Driver_IROL_Not_LESS_or_ Equal

2. Load needed DLLs for Kernel

3. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:system32\Drivers\ntfs.sys
you can attempt to repair the file by starting windows setup using the original set up CD-Rom,select'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Many thanks.
Vinnie.

Try unplugging the external drive?

I have come across this problem before and it can happen when a RAM stick goes bad.

If you have more than one stick, try removing one and see if the problem disappears. If not swap them around, still running with just the one.

Alternatively, you could try the M$ solution, which will addresses/replaces the the ntfs.sys file. : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822800 you will obviously need an XP installation disk for this and not a Recovery Disk.

It could be either, so try each and see how you get on.
