Default First XP Install; Disk Boot Failure. SATA HDD

I have recently built a PC using the listed items:

Mainboard: MSI K9MM-V
Processor: AMD Sempron 3400+ 1.8GHz Socket AM2 L2 256KB
HDD: Maxtor STM340211AS 40GB 7200RPM SATAII 2MB Cache – OEM
DVD: NEC Optiarc AD-7170S-0B 18x DVD±RW/DL/RAM Serial ATA Black – OEM

I come to load XP Pro SP2 by entering the bios and choosing CDROM as my preference boot. I check that the HDD and DVD drive have been recognised, which they do. But as I save the CMOS and try and boot from the CD I get an error message; DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

Ive tried every combination I can think of in the bios, changed the jumpers around on the HDD, even tried using an IDE CDROM drive to boot from, all attempts returning with the same message.

One thing I think it might be, when I enter the Standard CMOS features, the SATA HDD and DVD drive are positioned in IDE Channel 1 and 2 respectfully, do these need to be in Channel 0? I do not know how to do this.

Any help will be much appreciated as I have completely run out of ideas?

Kind Regards

A PC will boot from CD with no hard drives so it is not them causing the problem.

More so a faulty CD-Rom or Windows CD.

Try with just the CD-Rom plugged in.

Make sure the drive is detected in the BIOS.

A question should pop up and ask you to boot from CD.

Also look out for the option to press a F key to select boot device.
