Hi
I had been having a few problems with my acer laptop for a while, so i eventually decide to do a full system restore, back to factory settings. The only way i could find to do this was to press Alt F10 on startup. So i did this, which took about half an hour after getting to 100% several times and then starting at zero again. when it finally finished it said error, and a code which i do no recall. now it wont start up and i dont have a disk to try n relaod vista with, anybody had similiar problems or have a solution? cheers in advance.

Ive got a simular problem at the minute, to be honest the best thing you can do is format your hard drive and re-install vista, or you could try downloading a linux live cd and then run your vista from there to see what happens.

Are there no other O/S install discs in the house that you can try?

It's a real pity you tried the Acer Restore.
From your description it sounds like it has probably formatted the disk and the unsuccessful restore has left you without a workable system.
Meaty is probably right here and you will need to do a fresh installation.

If you had come here first, we could have pointed you to the Vista Repair Disk, hosted at Neosmart This may have been able to repair your boot problem, without resorting to a factory restore.

I guess there's no harm in trying it now, but I suspect the action you have taken, may have overwritten your Operating System and left you in the lurch.

I had this problem on my Acer Aspire 5610Z.
What i did was use my windows98SE where you can boot-up in DOSS (there might be other programs that may do the same). Format C: drive as FAT32 (this will wipe all data as vista uses NTFS file system) restart the computer. The computer should restart like it was when it left the factory.

IF this did not work

Boot up with Windows98 (or other program) and start the computer "WITHOUT CD-ROM SUPPORT"

Run "fdisk" this will give you access to the partion of the harddrive where Windows Vista is stored.
Change your boot partion to the first (top of the hard drive list)
save settings, turn the computer off then restart.

It should restart installing windows as from new.

Hope this helps
