Default Help with bootup problem!

Hey guys,

I've turned the computer on today and windows isn't booting. It says boot from disc, insert boot disk.... so I put the windows cd in the drive and after it takes its sweet time loading a blue screen that says 'install windows' or 'reconfigure' or exit. I dont know what to do from this point. I can get into the bios and bits at the beggining of startup but I dont know what to do in thier either! Any help appreciated as my girlfriend WILL kill me if it's not working by later!

It's windows XP home and up till today never had bootup probs. Cheers in advance!

Run the CD again and select the SECOND repair option, all data will stay intact and it will overwrite any bad files.

Default Help with bootup problem!

Thanks for the help guys, I think the problem is my hard-drive. It seems as though the C drive has dissapeared. The only drives it can find are A drive (floppy disk, which I dont actually have!) and Z drive.... never heard of Z drive before! it's only got 17 files on it though. How would you diagnose a broken HDD and do you think I will loose all the stuff on the C drive? Getting worried now, I've just lost my job and my CV and everything are on the HDD! WHY GOD WHY!!!

Thanks again,
a very unlucky Kris!

Does the drive show up in the BIOS or Post screens?

If not it is basically toast.
