Hey all’
I was just wanting some advice please. I am looking at buying a notebook that I have seen on ebuyer.com the issue I have with it is that it comes with a Linux operating system as opposed to windows. So what I would like to no is can I install XP onto it? I have a “Copy” of windows XP professional with service pack 1 is it a simple put the disk in and away you go or is there a lot more to it then that? And I have also been told that it must be an shop bought version of XP is this true? I will only really be using it for watching movies whilst on the train music and the internet really and it seems like a good buy for what I need, Here is a link to it anyway.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Your version of XP should be fine, but you will have to install all the drivers again found here

Social warfare - Thank you for your reply! Just to confirm should I install the drivers while the notebook is running on Linux? Or should I install win XP and then download the drivers? And how do I go about installing it? Is it just a case of putting the disk in and rebooting? I have installed windows before but never over an other OS. Sorry for all the questions and thank you for your help.

Ben

p.s is it all the drivers on that page? there are loads lol!

Install XP, THEN Install drivers (in XP). For installing, just put the disk in, go through the menu and such.

NOTE!!!! When it says "Write over existing partition?" or something like that, select yes. This will write over the Linux OS.

Basiclly just do what it says and youll be fine.
