Default Help needed!

The model is HP Pavillion zt3000.
768 RAM
Windows XP Professional
I got an error message abruptly a little over a month ago which I couldn't read since the blue screen flashed for less then a second and disappeared. Upon my friend's advice, I changed a few settings to ensure the computer doesn't automatically restart so that I can note the error message(s) and the ones below are what I got...

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR ***STOP OXOOOOOO7A
(OXCO3DD180, OXCOOOOOOE, OXF7460384, OX06AD9860) ***
atapi.sys - Address F7460384 base at F7453000,
Datestamp 41107b4d Beginning dump of physical memory

The other one:OXOOOOOO7A (OXE17BADDO, OXCOOOOOOE, OXBF9429AA,OX28836860) WIN32K.SYS- Address BF9429AA Base at BF8000000, Date Stamp 41107F7A
I was asked to run a RAM test which is http://www.memtest.org/download/1.70/memtest86+-1.70.iso.zip and no errors appeared.
The error messages stopped occurring for a while and then it started appearing once in every 4-5 days or so....and then I got a 3rd new message which is:

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated
STOP: OX000000OFA (OXOOOOOOO3,OX82D84680,OX82D847F4,OX805FA7A8)
The 3rd message appeared over 12 times and at least last weekned. My friend wanted to check the virtual memory and got me to turn it off subsequently.

I also ran the chkdsk / r operation and no errors have occur ed...based on the problem stated, a few people have suggested that its a hardware problem and either there is a problem with the motherboard or connections between the hard disk and the mother board. The computer has completely stopped working now and I can access it to run a command prompt in the safe mode/safe mode. I tried to restore the computer (as suggested by HP costumer services) but it restores the system to 31st Jan and not earlier than that. So this hasn't helped either.

I have checked for Spyware and also for viruses and there was no problem.

Any advice on this matter will be appreciated.

Thanks much!

if you can go into the bios (del at startup) and find something simular to 'DRAM CONFIG'. find your ram clock speed and turn it down a notch then select 'exit and save'.

i cant guide you through it step-by-step because all bioses ar different, but im sure your friend could do it.

The Stop message(s) appear to refer to the atapi.sys file, which is a mass storage controller, that affects your HDD.
It's possible that this has bcome corrupted. Try running the system file checker, by going to a command prompt and typing SFC /SCANNOW and Enter. You may be asked to insert your XP CD.
This will check all your System files for integrity and replace any that are brokern/corrupted.

If the above is of no use, it could be your page file, used for Virtual Memory has become damaged/corrupted.

Have a look here for procedure to remedy.

Out of interest did you install Daemon Tools or any other software that uses a Virtual Drive, immediately prior to this problem ?

Yep ... it's a process of elimination really .... try the easy/cheap solutions first, the start looking at replacing hardware.
