Default Help! Restoring my computer back to normal.....

Hi There.

For some unknown reason, my computer has not been working normal recently. The problem is, i cannot use my computer outside of 'safe mode'. I would really like restore my system to normality but i don't know how or what the problem is.

Basically, the computer loads, but only a dos style style screen appears with the options of:

Safe Mode with networking
Safe Mode
or 'Start windows normally'.

If i opt to go with 'start windows normally' or leave the pc for 30 seconds so it automatically does this, it does not load the windows screen for me to login i.e blue background with Family (password menu). It brings up another dos style screen.

Any Help would be appreciated!

Thankyou Very Much!

Do you have any antivirus? Try running a scan in safe mode if system restore does not work.

Even if system restore does work I would then suggest following the instructions in This Post to ensure there is no malware.

1. Click Start.
2. Point to All Programs.
3. Point to Accessories.
4. Point to System Tools.
5. Click System Restore.
6. Follow the instructions on the wizard.

Default Help! Restoring my computer back to normal.....

Hey.

Thankyou for the reply.

However, i have checked the computer for viruses, there were none to be found.

Also, i tried using system restore, however, this did not work. I still have the safe mode problem. Maybe is it a physical problem? I have no idea.

Thanks.

Default Help! Restoring my computer back to normal.....

Go to Start > Run > type msconfig

There are some settings in there for boot.ini

See what they are set to.

Hey.

I followed the instructions.

The settings on BOOT.INI are:

It has a window with -

boot loader

timeout = 30

default=multi(0)diskpartition1windows

(Operating systems)

Milti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)windows=microso ftxphomeedition/noexecute=optin/fastdetect

the one above is selected.

nothing else seems to be selected?

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

The only difference in mine is

default=multi(0)diskpartition1windows <---Yours
default=multi(0)diskpartition(2)windows <---Mine

Click the "Check All Boot Paths" button.

Once again, this has not solved the problem. Nothing changed after following these instructions.

When the computer starts up, it continually attemps to load windows without the sign on screen appearing. Then i have to press the reset button on the tower, and then the computer will load with the dos style screen where i can choose safe mode.

Thankyou for your help anyways.
