i had viruses attack my system and was trying to fight them but it was too late. i was in safe mode trying to delete some new programs i installed thinking maybe that would help. i restarted comp and signed in i hit the internet explorer icon and comp froze. i had to do hard boot and when sceen came back up dchm or something like that was trying to access computer after about 2mins a black screen popped up and said "operating system not found". i have windows xp disk. will it be read once i put disk in and reboot?

You could boot from the XP CD and do a repair install.

Yer do that.
But if that doesnt fix it then get a linux live CD use it to acsess your hard drive and copy the important files to a memory stick or another hard drive.
However if you dont need to recover your stuff then a good long hard drive format and a fresh install of windows will see to the end of the virus.

Just remeber if you do a reinstallion of windows xp, you do have reactivate it.
