Are your computers running a firewall aswell, if they are make sure your daughters laptop will accept the connection from your computer

When I networked my laptop and desktop I had to enter the ip addresses of my laptop and desktop into norton on either machine, for some reason when you run the home networking wizard it doesn't configure norton to accept messages from 1 computer

Yes both PC and LT are (full trust) in Norton also I can see from both that they are setup in NORTON

Where do I go after I finish setting up network, I went to explore/mynetworkplace/ and nothing there for the laptop.
I'm sure I am missing a step or two. what about the rooter do i need to do anything in it???

Just 1 last thought are they both running on the same workgroup ie "mshome" ect....

After going into my network places on the left under the network tasks header is view workgroup computers, if you click that all being well your daughters laptop should be there

I am sure it is norton on your daughters laptop that is blocking your computer, in norton firewall config menu, goto networking and click add, enter your pc's ip address there
