My sister was kind enough to lend me her work laptop and I unfortunately I managed to break it. I was not permitted to create new accounts and so I renamed her existing account. I am afraid that I have now lost her data. Any assistant would be much appreciated.
The laptop is running Windows XP Version 2002 with service pack 2. In C:\Documents and Settings\ there are the following folders (Brackets are used only for the purpose of describing the problem and replace the real name of the folders): - Administrator - administrator.[WORK] - All Users - [My Name] - [My Sister] - [My Sister].[WORK] - [WORK IT technician] Control panels only lists the following domains: - Administrator - ASPNET - [My Name] All three of these are listed on the same local domain : [WORK1] Prior to my fiddling there was another domain on the list: [WORK2] which required connectivity to the work network. Now none of the accounts are associated with this domain. I'm at a lost as to what I can do. Ultimately I would like to recover the data for [My Sister] and [My Sister].[WORK] and I have the passwords for these accounts. How can I proceed so as not to jeopardized her data any further? |

Are you an administrator? Are you saying you can't access the files in the 2 folders
- [My Sister] - [My Sister].[WORK] ? |

Unfortunately no.
All files are listed as 0 bytes. |

I don't know if it will work or not but will be worth a try.
Check these out. The PC INSPECTOR File Recovery would probably be the one to try first. http://www.thecomputerforums.co.uk/category14.html |

Have you tried creating a new user with your sister's name and then seeing whether the files reappear?
