We have a few decent magnets at work, we use them for picking up tracks/bars on which mining machinery runs! Im sure they will do the trick very nicely.

Other nice opitons - A nice heavy lump hammer

Infect it with a nasty virus. eg, Vista Anti-virus 2008

Install Linux over it.

I find that Microsoft themselves do a pretty good job at disabling Windoze, but does that count as destruction?

A nuclear bomb on Redmond?

Im sure that finding other options by self research would be more valuable to your educational needs than been dictated the answers. The VM which you have is a good way to go and learn - just play around with it until you break it, then you will find the answers you are looking for....

I guess you could always rummage through your registry?
http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...ash-Windows-XP
Also typing your question here or Google are the same thing you will be copying. If you truly want to 'Learn' then do as Sjb007 suggested and fiddle with your reg and system files. I'd of thought it would have made sense to find ways on preventing windows from crashing But i suppose it could come in handy knowing a few ways windows can crash if it were to ever happen to you.

Load it in Linux with its ntfs extensions and type

rm -r windows folder

Next one: find ways of messing up the boot sector, eg, GRUB, or just overwrite it using DD.

Third one: screw up the partition table.

Keep fixing the MBR using an XP disk, at some point it should corrupt and render it useless, that's a hardware thing though and wouldn't suggest it if you're doing it in VM ware..

Overwriting the booter with an older one (Win 2k) will delete the XP one and I don't think 2k can boot XP

what's wrong with water and dirt?

doesn't "format c: /q/u" still work?

edit boot.ini will work:)

linking exe files to paint is funny (explorer->folder options->file types)

uninstalling ide/sata controller will work:)

sigh... soooooooo many ways...

school related:
try reading "notepad c:\com1" or "notepad c:\lpt1".
