I just reinstalled my complete OS, Windows XP SP2. I'd like to delete the Windows Tour which takes up space and I absolutely don't need. Of course there's no option in add/remove programs to do this. Can someone recomend a safe way to do this?
The Tour is located in windows/help/tour and contains 3 subfolders. I could go in and maually take out the files but theres one or two which are "read only" and wont let me change the attributes. Advice please?

Also any comments on deleting files generally which absolutely -Refuse- to let you change the attibutes? one which after you change them keep comming back. And I don't mean system files here!

Thanks Mike

To take full control of a file:
  • Right click the file, select properties.
  • Click the security tab, then click on your user name.
  • Click edit, then click on your user name on the pop up screen
  • Check the box marked "full control" under the allow heading
  • OK out of all dialog boxes.

Booting into safe mode also often lets you get rid of stubborn files.

There is a gizmo I have on my laptop that creates a context menu item to delete at next reboot

Give it a try.

evilfantasy's idea will not work in XP Home, since you will not find any Security tab.

Often files can be deleted once you have removed a windows registry reference to them. For instance, if a program fails to uninstall, so you can't delete its files, you can run regedit and delete its software keys. (eg, Microsoft Office!)

The Security tab becomes available when you are logged in as an Administrator in Safe Mode.
