Hi

You will first need to copy all the data files (all your documents etc) from the old hard drive to a CD or your other computer.
Then you will need to install Windows XP on the new hard drive using the disk provided when you bought the laptop. Then you can copy the document files back.

I hope this help, If you could let us know what part exactly you need help with we will be able to give more detailed instructions.

Many Thanks

Leo

If the Laptop and the Vista PC both have Ethernet ports, you can hook them up with a crossover cable, run the Network wizard on each, to set up a Small Home/Office Network and copy the files from one to the other and back again after your new HDD is fitted.

Alternatively grab a 2.5" USB Exrernal Enclosure and put the old drive in that, then install your new drive and access the data from there.

Yes

also could i just copy all of c; drive then put it back on to the new hard drive

No .... because the Operating System would not work properly, by copying that way.
You will need to do a clean install on your new drive.
