I'm still in the learning curve with Vista Home Premium. What I would like to do is have the Windows Calendar appear automically when I boot up instead of the Welcome Centre. I have two books on Vista and can't find out to do this in either of them. Also the type in the built in stuff e.g. drop downs and instructions is quite faint, much fainter than XP how do I change the built in display defaults. I've exhasusted every option in the 'Personalize' screen without success. As an example the default type in the 'search 'bar on this web page which says, 'Google Custom Search' is almost invisible.
Thanks in advance for any help. Gari |

theres a box you can tick saying something like show welcome screen on logon when it appears, just untick it, and it wont come back! one of the many annoying vista things.

As far as getting rid of the welcome screen I'm not sure where you would do that, but I don't think you can have the calender open on startup. I think the only thing you can do is add the calender to the gadgets on the right of the desktop which is essentially the same.

Ok thanks for that, got the calendar on the Quick Launch now, that will have to do. Can anyone help with the faint type in the built in dropdowns etc it's a real eye strainer. Tried all the actual monitor controls as well as the Personalizer options but to no effect. Like I said, the type in the Search bar on this page is virtually invisible. Didn't happen with my old pc on XP and it's the same monitor HP L1906. (flat screen).

That is odd Garigoun, mine don't do that nor do any other computer that I haveseen. I was about to tell you to try to adjust your monitor, but I see you have done that as well as adjust the settings in "appearance" in Windows. Have you tried adjusting the font perhaps?

For a webpage, you do it in your browser. For instance, I use Firefox so I click on "tools" then "Options" and then "Content." In the middle of the content screen is the box for fonts and colors. Click advanced for more options.
In IE it's "Tools," " Internet Options" and then "General." At the bottom of the "general'' screen you will see "Appearance" which has four buttons you can click, one is fonts and another is colors. For Windows itself, there are a variety of things you can change. Go to "Start" then "Control Panel" it depends on which "view" you are using from there. If you are in Classic view, play with "fonts" or "Personalization." In Personalization you will see off to the left an option to make the DPi bigger. If you go with the other view, look for "Appearance and Personalization." |

Not really. Pop in the disc hit format, and load lol. Of course I wouldn't do it, why not try Win7? Vista is a good program, far superior to XP and Win7 is Vista with all bugs taken out. Get the demo and convert it over to the "official" version when it is released next year. Many folks here on the forums are using it. I SHOULD be using it, but I've just been too lazy to convert so far. I have the thing downloaded and an activation key for it lol.
IMHO Vista will have a short life after Win7 is officially released, Vista will be to Win7 what Win2000 was to XP. EDIT: if you do decide to go back to XP, I would download and burn to disc SP1,2 and 3 if you don't have them. It makes installation so much easier. |
