Right with you there Bubba. I don't see what Vista offers that Win7 doesn't..

I did until an hour or so ago have both of them installed - still in my sig - but Win7 is so bug free even on the Beta and RC, so I'm now using it alongside XP happily.

The only people who will upgrade to Vista when 7 is fully released, will be cheapskates who want something that vaguley resembles W7.

Upgrading from 98 or 2000 to XP after Vista was released was still understandable, many people still use it today, even though we're two steps ahead.

EDIT: if you do decide to go back to XP, I would download and burn to disc SP1,2 and 3 if you don't have them. It makes installation so much easier.
Ok Bubba, I think I will try Win 7. Next problem, I'm too chicken to try it on my new machine with Vista in case I loose my stuff or make a complete spheroids of it. I'm not very PC literate technically. My old pc with XP is in the garage and I would need to connect it to b/band wirelessly to try Win7 on that. No room in the office. It is about 25mtrs away with two brick walls between the machines. Is it possible and do I need any info from the ISP. I am using sky b/band.

I'm not good with networks, heck, I can't get my wife's laptop (directly upstairs) or daughters computer to connect to my printer lol. Serverguy is the one to ask about that.

The distance and walls will be fine for any half decent adapter (ie from a reputable company, but everyone here would make sure you got one from a reputable company anyway )

More importantly, do you already have a wireless router? If so you can just buy yourself a wireless adapter and you're away.

If not you'll need to buy a router as well (the thing that sends out the signal wirelessly)

But you don't really need internet on the machine for Win7, only if you mean you actually will want to use the internet with it.

If you're just thinking of downloading the file, you can download it on your Vista PC, burn it to disc (which you'd have to do anyway) and stick it in the XP machine, boot up and install.
