Hi, i bought a while ago from a now ex-friend a Dell X300 laptop which he'd set up for me prior to passing it over. Instead of rebooting the laptop with the Dell reboot discs he'd bought a new XP Home Edition pack to go with it & partitioned the 40gb hard drive for 6gb to run the system & rest as a data disc. The laptop has become increasingly used instead of my desktop & now the 6gb system partition is clogged up with rubbish & i want to do a total system reboot. The computer flashes up with an error message when I try to re-install XP onto the existing 6gb partition saying there is insufficient room to do this. So i tried installing to the large other partition, moving the drivers over & re-format the 6gb partition. Seems I cant do this either as the laptop wont allow it to protect system files so it says! I've never liked the partitioned drive set up & cant go back to my ex-friend as we fell out & havent spoken in 2 years now!

How can I totally re-boot the hard drive so there are no partitions & basically starting from scratch. Note I dont have the Dell reboot discs, just a new XP license pack?

Thanks.

When you boot off the XP CD you will get options to wipe the 2 partitions and then create a single one.

Then format it and install.
