I am trying to install windows over Linux which was pre-installed when purchased, and I get as far as the drive space screen, and then get a message saying Windows cannot install on this drive, must be installed on partition formatted as NTFS.

I cannot go any further, and now Linux doesnt boot up either, but I havent done anything else! I cant access Command Prompt to go in that way either

Where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance

Use GParted on a USB stick and reformat the drive as NTFS.

Excellent thanks very much.

Do I boot the netbook using the USB stick? Only when I boot as usual it goes to command prompt and shows the drive and "grub" but doesnt go any further

Yes, you boot off the USB stick.

Then the USB stick is not set up correctly and it's not finding the bootloader.
