Have you tried downloading it straight from M/S and install from there instead of CD

Tried both ways. Tried around 3 times with the Microsoft download, and now around 6 times with discs. Getting no where.

Ok I have had an idea. I can get my hands on my friends unused disc of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, do you think this would work?

The windows XP disc that your using to reinstall windows, does it have SP1 on it ?....If so I would suggest to you to download a Windows XP disc with windows SP2 on it & also make sure you have NET Framework 2.0...I had same problem until i did this.....Hope this helps.

Well I have tried a SP2 disc and also an intergrated SP1/2 disc, but I have not tried the NET Framework 2.0, you really think this would help me?

Tried that method, installed NET Framework 2.0 and then downloaded the SP2 upgrade from Microsoft and with the same problem, it again hung on the boot screen. So any answers to whether it will work by installing windows xp media center edition 2005?

Note! I used my friends vista disc and it let me install that fine, oviously i had to uninstall it just tested it, but if it works with vista but not SP2?

Well it seems that installing Media Center 2005 worked and I now have Service pack 2!

OK may have a new problem now, I have my friend XP media edition 2005 installed on my computer but I am unsure whether the registration with Microsoft went through correctly? If there anything i can do to check if i need to activate the product still? For instance type something within run to see how many days i have left to activate the edition? Cheers
