i know it a dumb Question, and prob a coman mistake,..

i have a friend that installed a ver. of Dell XP pro to a coputer and went to activate it,.. by buying a copy if XP thu MS.

now it wont work bc the OS only see's Dell bios.

i told him to wait till the CD get's there and insert the CD and repair it,... so it over write the system files and it sould correct the issue

is this correct ?

thanks

Either version from experience should work on any brand PC, what error message are you getting?

ok - im not sure if i was clear what was going on, in my 1st post,....

it not a DELL computer he installed this software on, but is tryin to get it activated he bought a copy of xp pro thu MS and is tryijn to activate the DELL software thu the product key that MS provided.. from my understanding this will not work, b/c the computer he installed it on is not a DELL noe have a DELL bios.

when he recives the dish from MS and runs the repair Opt. this should over write the system files to the XP from MS and correct the issue

correct ??

So in essence you tried to install a OEM specific copy of XP using a new legit product key from MS (that you got over email or whatever when you order it online), it didn't work because it's not a Dell computer, but you're asking that when you get the disk and hit repair if that'll fix the halfway-installed Dell stuff?

Yeah, it should, and if it doesn't you can always just wipe and start over.
